Camp 1

Sci-Fi / Thriller

Camp 1 is an indie Sci-Fi thriller Adventure Game and the first work from the swedish Waxwing Games wo define themselves as a "small indie developer with a softspot for early 90s adventure games". As said before, Camp 1 is their debut work althought, judging the final quiality of their product, it is more than clear that they already had considerable experience in the topic, because the matter in question, is a solid piece or work with almost no weaknesses.

The history takes place in a small scientific station where four convicts do geological research for a major corporation. Korski, the lead character of the game is a pilot whose task is to transport the samples of geological material into orbit, where afterwards are taken to its final destination by a space cargo ship. The other dwellers of the research facility are Chen, a chineese woman whose role is the administrarion of the place, Adwa the geologist in charge of the drilling activities, and Parker, a technician who makes maintenance service to the station equipment.

Everything is ongoing quite between the normal parameters until the day that Korski, serverd his sentence, is about to make his last ride before his freedom. But this long-awaited moment became frustrated by an "apparent" accident who leaves Korsky stranded in the frozen plains far from the station and even further form the desired freedom. 

Here is when the calvary begins for Korski, who must find a way to come back to the camp in one piece traversing several miles of icy wastelands, and once safe again, unveil the misterious events arround the accident of his ship and the recent murder of a member of the team who was alive at the moment he left the station.   

Using the AGS (Adventure Game Studio) engine, Camp 1 has the visuals of the classics point & click adventures of the middle ´90s which is well crafted and imbued with a dark opressive style that alongside with an adecuated palette seleccion provide a ghastly depressive atmosphere that perfectly articulate with the thrilling plot of this interesting adventure. 

The sporadic digitalized sounds effects comes by just when they are needed, and the intentionally isolated music, piano and a guitar shady tunes, emerge from the background in the right moment, increasing the drama of an especific situation. 

The control interface is a simplified point & click system of two commands walk / interact (left button) and examine (right button) and the game general difficulty is slightly avobe average, but this aspect it is allways subjective and  depends mainly in the experience of the player. In Camp 1 we also find first person puzzles where we have to interact directly with machines and technical equipment ensambling parts or conecting hoses or power plugs.

In conclusion, Camp 1 is a sturdy independent piece of work who worth recognition and deserves to be rescued from the abyss of forgetfulness in wich this kind of works commonly fall, being incapable to reach the major game platforms like Steam or GOG.

Mike Dawson, exitoso empresario publicitario, decide tomarse un tiempo libre para dedicarse a su pasión, la escritura; adquiere entonces una vieja casona en una zona residencial para retirarse allí y trabajar en sus proyectos literarios. La antigua mansión le resulta extrañamente barata teniendo en cuenta el exquisito estilo arquitectónico y el buen estado general de la propiedad; sin preocuparse demasiado por esto habita la vivienda desconociendo el oscuro secreto que se esconde dentro. Apenas pasada la primera noche una horrenda pesadilla y terribles migrañas recaen sobre el pobre Dawson, inconsciente aún de que lo peor todavía está por venir.
:en:  You play Mike Dawson, an ad company manager who, in pursuit of his goal in life to become a writer, purchases a solitary mansion in a small town called Woodland Hills. Although the low cost and hush-hush transactions when purchasing the house do raise your suspicion, the solitary environment and sheer beauty of the house crush common sense and you decide to buy the house. That's when trouble begin. Upon reaching the house, you suddenly feel tired. You find a bed and fall asleep...(1)

De visita casual en lo de su tío George, reconocido científico, el joven Boris se ve atraído por uno de los inventos que descansa en una de las habitaciones, se trata de una enorme máquina en forma de cápsula. Boris, con la curiosidad inconsciente de adolescencia decide ingresar en ella y probar algunos comandos sin pensar que sus acciones terminarían no solo activando la máquina, sino que también transportandolo a una lejana, fantástica y futurista dimensión viendose involucrado en peligrosas conspiraciones de las cuales deberá sobrevivir si quiere regresar de nuevo a su dimensión.

:en: Visiting his uncle George, a renowed scientist, young Boris become attracted by one of the inventions located in the far corner of a room, a huge pod-shaped machine. Boris, with the unconscious curiosity of the teenagers, decide to push a few buttons not thinking that his actions would lead him to a dimensional travel to a fantastic and futuristic kingdom in the distant reaches of the universe.

Future Wars - Les Voyageurs du Temps: La Menace

Future Wars cuenta historia de cómo un joven que se desempeña como limpia vidrios en un enorme edificio empresarial a finales de los 80, se encuentra repentinamente, tras rebelarse contra su opresivo jefe, en medio de un enorme conflicto que involucra una invasión alienígena y peligrosos viajes en el tiempo tanto hacia el pasado como hacia el futuro. Este clásico de Delphine Software es el primer trabajo que presenta la interface Cinematique y cuenta con el trabajo gráfico de Eric Chahi.

Intending to play a prank on his angry boss, the unlikely hero discovers a secret passage leading to a time machine along with mysterious alien documents. Operating the device transports the protagonist to the year 1304, where he is given a seemingly ordinary task of rescuing a lady in danger. However, he soon finds out about a much more serious threat of a global alien invasion.(1)

Ladd, delincuente intergaláctico está de nuevo en carrera pero esta vez no se saldrá tan fácil con las suyas; tras intentar hacer algo de dinero como ladrón de ganado es atrapado por la oficial Ysanne Andropath quien lo apresa en su nave y planea conducirlo a la prisión estelar más próxima.

 :en: Jack T. Ladd, notorious thief and would-be nightmare of the galaxy, has suddenly got female company. Rather involuntary, that is. Ysanne Andropath is not only a stunning red-head, but also a cop. So she throws Jack into a cell on her spaceship and heads off for stellar jail, when disaster strikes.(1)
